Often the front wings have to be removed to access the rust. Fortunately not too difficult on the XJS
Scuttle rust beginnings
Visually the problem starts when rust creeps beyond the trim, but usually bigger problems lurk beneath...
The whole scuttle has been cut out
and a panel stripped from a donor car is prepared and let into the body.
A less common fault area at the forward edge of the scuttle, but rust has penetrated into the box section below.
A much smaller problem - caught in time!
Note that on this side there was no evidence of a problem beyond the screen trim, but of course the hidden hole is letting water into the cabin
